Sportsmanship is a subject that is drawing more and more concerns from grade school through to the professional level in all sports. It’s a huge issue not only in Michigan, but also across the country. The problem of poor sportsmanship or misconduct is practiced by only a few, but is felt by all.
MJF, in accordance with the Central Junior Football Conference rules, has adopted a Zero Tolerance Policy.
With rule changes at the conference level, the conduct of fans, coaches and players will affect the team. The CJFC and MJF expect parents to be positive and supportive spectators at games. Any inappropriate behavior on the part of a parent will risk the team’s season and MJF’s future in the conference. Please be a good role model for your children. Your behavior on the sidelines does impact the players on the field. A team that has a parent/parents who yell at the referees or question calls, develops players who do the same. Parents, your job is to cheer. It is the coach’s job to coach, the referees to call the game, and the players to play.
Following is the MJF Code of Conduct for parents, as outlined by the CJFC rules. Please take a moment to read them thoroughly. MJF must have this copy, signed by you, on file before your child will be allowed to participate in the MJF program. An additional copy is available to you on request.
Code of Conduct for Parents
-
No smoking allowed on any school property at any time.
-
No profanity at any time during games or practice.
-
No alcohol at any time before or during games or practice.
-
Parents are not allowed beyond the rope barriers or in the bench area during a game unless your
child is injured.
-
Parents are not allowed onto the practice field or to approach a child or coach during practice
unless your child is injured.
-
Harassment of game officials, coaches, board members or players is not permitted.
-
Parents/Guardians are responsible for the conduct of any family members and or guests attending
a game.
-
Parents will not approach an official before, during or after any game.
-
It is the responsibility of the Parent/Guardian to report any violation of the above immediately to
the field director or representative.
-
MJF reserves the rights to suspend any parent for any inappropriate behavior observed during any
game, practice or MJF event. Further violations and resulting discipline will be the decision of the MJF Board of Directors.
Keep in mind, the officials have control of the field 30 minutes prior to and 30 minutes after the game. These rules remain in effect that entire time. Violators can be ejected from the game and for the next game. A second offense can result in you and your child’s expulsion for the remainder of the year. If you are ejected from a game, CJFC officials will contact MJF. If you refuse to leave after being ejected, the official has the option to stop the game, forfeit the game and/or call the police to have you removed from the premises. If the police are called on your behalf, you will have a 1 year ban from the program and jeopardize your child’s eligibility in the MJF program.
